On a private island in the Atlantic Lived a private family My mother, my father, my brother, my brother, my sister and me Then one day they sent me off to university And I was introduced to endless possibility I studied media and communications, moved to the single greatest nation Got a job in prestigious marketing Followed orders, practiced patience I was on my way to prosperity Then one day my boss, he fired me What a stupid game Everyday the same Caught up in the competition Thought that I could play Thought I had a chance How naive was I? I did this to myself Broken promises How exploitative How malevolent I guess that’s what this is It’s an exponential race to the top of a waterfall An existential taste of the sky Then they’ll build a dam in this metaphor Harness hydro energy With indentured servitude Call it all a company All I saw was make believe American mythology Credit hanging over me And I am so damn sorry Yeah, I am so damn sorry I did this to myself

All the houses that I never built Too busy living in fantasy Too stuck to realize I’ve let this place build me Though I can’t help but See, a field in front of me An oval entrance, draped with mahogany A tall construction in the shape of a tree And at least fifteen balconies But not too big just satisfactory I'm looking for the space I need Or still, a door hidden inside a hill It opens up, reveals a living room Expressionism on the walls Full spectrum lights in the halls And alcoves with books to read I'm looking for the space I need A thin skyscraper in an urban wasteland A boathouse lily pad full of heart A container home recycled metal A museum cabin made of art All the houses that I never built Too busy living in fantasy Too stuck to realize I’ve let this place build me Where is this space I need This sanctuary? Take me to the forest floor Take me to the mountain peak Take me ‘cross the seven seas I will build a home to take me Flying high above the breeze Any place I want to go Any place I want to see I think I know the space I need I think I know the space I need

While you weren’t looking Half the world disappeared Launching molecules of hope Into the atmosphere Aiming for the promises They wanted to hear Aiming for the promises We wanted to hear Naïve to damage We cause with our fear Is this an optical illusion? Am I living in a trap? Am I an insane soldier? Am I Schrödinger’s cat? Is this the eye of a storm Is it going to rain Tell me when I do fall Tell me who will remain Will the cycle begin again While you weren’t looking Half the world disappeared Launching molecules of hope Into the atmosphere Aiming for the promises We wanted to hear Aiming for the promises I wanted to hear Naïve to damage I caused with my fear I am so damn sorry Yes I am so damn sorry I did this to myself Did I do this to myself

We gather in the swimming pool The painted caves, the crop circles The cul de sacs with petal blankets Gardens growing thyme and basil The factories, the libraries The cubicles, universities We speak a language handed down Every time a little different Every mouth another etching Held in place by silk vibration Neuron networks lighting torches Together through association We isolate an obstacle A broken bulb, a question mark Put it through hypothesis Experimental back and forth Getting closer every moment Never finished, never sure We scatter to the river banks Ride the veins to little boxes Feed ourselves a bowl of purpose Add a tally to the wall Settle down, begin reflection Think and dream about it all

about

"Evaporation" is an absurdist play with music about the fascist radicalization of white men. It follows four siblings living in a warehouse loft in a US city, as the youngest brother Sfenn falls deeper into alt-right propaganda.
